500 Photographers - Matt Stuart

Matt Stuart
Matt Stuart, an English Street Photographer has been shooting on the streets for 18 years, he says " I am not sure which comes first being nosey or an interest in street photography, but a fascination with people and the way they live their lives is why I enjoy the business so much." His work caught my eye because it made me smile when I came across it, his images are so random, comical and original its almost amazing. Again this photographer does not edit his images with the same colours and effects although each image is quite strongly contrasted and bold, you would know this photographers work when seen. The images I chose, I chose because again they made me smile, the originality in them makes the image. Matt Stuart's work is all about 'In the right place at the right time' that is a definite.

Chloe Aftel -

Music Videos, Commercial Advertising, Fashion and Portraits, just four of the many things this Photographer shoots. I have chosen Chloe Aftel out of the 500 Photographers because I love the way her work is soft and creative. Aftel shoots many stills and motion photographs, she has done work for many famous brands including Google, Vogue, Elle, Levi's, Marie Claire and many more.
The Photographs I have chosen of hers I chose because, well because I like them, I like the way they all appear to have a story behind them like they were all taken from a film or Music Video. They are each very different showing the women in different ways. Compared to Adeline Mai which I mentioned how she has a very distinctive way of editing and taking her photographs, how you know all of them are hers as she has a certain style in my opinion Chloe Aftel's work isn't like that, they don't each have the same editing effects or the same set out, each are individual and have their own personality. The lighting and colour is also different in each photo, for example the image of the woman smoking uses natural light reflecting right onto her making it clear where the light is from where as the first image of the girl walking doesn't have obvious lighting, it isn't overly bright and you cannot really see where the light is coming from.Chloe Aftel's creativity is something i admire in these images especially the way she has used two of the women in the first is different and catches the eye.

Task 2 500 Photographers

I chose to research more into Adeline Mai's work because when coming across her work in the '500 Photographers' website, it caught my eye, born in 1989 this photographer attended 'Gobelins, School of the Image photography' and carried out her diploma. The way she uses and establishes light in every photograph is incredible. The way she uses the light creates a soft, light feel to each photograph which is iconic, every photo different, different meanings, different people and different places but all with the same iconic feel of Adeline Mai.
The image of the two people underwater I had picked out because the way Adeline has taken it, I felt it had a beautiful story behind it yet holds plenty of questions. why are they clothed underwater? who are they? are they in love? who knows. only Adeline. the use of light pink and purple washes over the image giving it a Retro in present kind of feel, with nothing else in the image other than the two people the viewer has nothing else to focus on but them, I like this, it leaves even more questioning to where is everyone else? With so much light included in the image the only place its established in the shot is glistening on top of the water, this is subtle and sweet, it is not shone right through the image making it an overkill.
The three portraits I feel are all about the light, the image of 'Nathan Jarrett' has half taken by light showing him innocently and his dark clothing brings him out. The portraits of the two girls are taken in such a way that it makes the viewer feel as if you are face on looking at them yourself, as if you were in the photograph. With blurred parts and big bursts of bright light these images taken by Adeline Mai are modern and simple again with the iconic purple and pink wash over of colour, these bright images stand out yet without any depth.

This photograph was taken many years ago in my Nanna and Granddads back garden, the photo showing my Nanna and uncles smiley faces.

With differences outside and inside the home the giggles and smiles still remain the same..x

Dear Photograph.

This photo was taken outside my Nanna and Granddads house years ago, this wall still stands with each grandchild sat and played around it.

Brick by Brick my uncle built the wobbly garden wall that still stands wobbling today, who would have known he would have become a successful builder in his years to come.
